SARAH KEIRLE
Sarah is an electroacoustic composer, PhD researcher and performer based in Manchester, UK. She graduated from the University of Manchester in 2017 with a first class MusB (hons) in Music and the P.J. Leonard First Prize for Electroacoustic Composition, and completed an Advanced Diploma in Sound for Film, Games and TV at SSR in 2018. In 2019, she completed a Masters in Electroacoustic Composition and Interactive Media, with Distinction. Her works have been performed at the ICMC, EASTN-DC, Radio CASo, Reform Radio, BEAST FEaST, MANTIS, ArtHouse Jersey, Diffrazioni Festival, Espacios Sonoros, TAma Festival, Ecos Urbanos, NMNW, REF Festival, BFE/RMA, MeCCSA-PGN, NWCDTP ResConf, and SHETogether. Her works have also been released by Empirica Records (FIXED.wav 2021) and ABLAZE Records (Electronic Masters vol. 8).
In September 2020, Sarah started an AHRC NWCDTP funded PhD in electroacoustic composition at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the use of animal sounds within electroacoustic composition to create new sonic means for conservation awareness, public engagement, and nature connection.
Having spent seven years surrounded by the thriving new music scene in Manchester, Sarah's love of performance has evolved to focus on new works and collaborative improvisation. In 2017, she was part of a performative installation at Porthmeor studios in St. Ives, joining other contemporary composers, performers and artists such as Gavin Osborn, the Vonnegut collective, Nina Whiteman and Rachel Graff. She is currently a member of KANTOS, a chamber choir comprising of the top choral singers across the North West of England.
Sarah's love of music began during her education in Guernsey, where she achieved grade 8 distinctions in viola, voice and piano, followed by a distinction in her viola ATCL. In 2016, she performed Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with violinist Libby Sherwood and the University of Manchester Chamber Orchestra, and during 2017, she was part of Genesis Sixteen, a choral scheme for under-25s led by Harry Christophers and coached by members of The Sixteen.
